Gaston Browne, the President of Antigua and Barbuda, announced on Saturday that Caribbean airline LIAT is going to be liquidated. An unprofitable 2019 and the coronavirus are the reasons behind this decision. He also said during an interview on local radio that LIAT might be formed into a new airline in Antigua, as it is essential that it be connected to other islands. There is clearly no way to go from one island to another without taking a plane, unless highways and railway lines start being built at a minute’s notice. Having started operations in 1956, it would be ashame to let LIAT go. For anybody wondering what LIAT stands for, it means: Leeward Airlines Air Transport. 29th of June 2020.
