New, exciting news has just come out! Panamericana Airlines, a Colombian cargo airline founded in northern Colombian city Baranquilla by Thomas Friese, will start operations in the 2nd half of this month! The airline has planned its maiden flight for the 17th of August. Ronald Pena, Panamericana’s Expansion Manager, has said that Baranquilla is a good location to base the airline, due to its geographical conditions, which help save fuel and make the most of cargo operations. He added that because Baranquilla is a seaside town, Panamericana could serve as a vital link between ships that arrive at the port and delivering their cargo to other countries and places within Colombia. But, this is not the only reason why Panamericana was chosen to be based in Baranquilla: 90% of Colombia’s cargo El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, which creates massive delays in the supply chain. With distribution and transportation companies not willing to wait hours for their cargo to get to its destination, Panamericana’s location and business idea could prove to be a useful alternative. 30 jobs have been created, and the airline plans to employ around 300 people by the end of the year. According to the airline’s website. it will operate 3 Boeing 747-400s, 2 757-200s and 1 777. This looks promising, and by joey is it unusual to have a start-up in this sanitary debacle! 8th of August 2020.
