Wizz Air has announced that it will open a second base (after London Luton) for its British subsidiary Wizz UK at Doncaster Sheffield Airport in Northern England, increasing the annual capacity at Yorkshire’s busiest airport to 300’000 seats. The airline will now add 10 routes to the current 7 that it operates from the airport. Wizz Air UK managing director Owain Jones has pointed out that the airline is “spreading its reach”, with leisure flights to Mediterranean destinations including Malaga, Faro (which begin on the 23rd of October), Larnaca (which begins on the 25th) and Alicante (which begins on the 22nd) being amongst the new destinations from DSA (Doncaster Sheffield Airport). Only 2 other airlines are operating flights out of DSA: TUI and BH Air, a Bulgarian charter airline. Wizz Air UK will be competing against TUI for the Malaga, Faro and Alicante routes. TUI’s current amount of destinations from DSA lies at 32, 25 of which are seasonal. Wizz Air UK has a fleet of 11 aircraft, of which 7 are Airbus A321-200s and 3 are Airbus A320-200s. 14th of August 2020.
