An Italian court has declared that Italian low-cost carrier Ernest Airlines is bankrupt. The airline suspended operations in January this year but announced in August that it had plans to restart operations. It was supposed to restart operations in December with a fleet of ATR 72s. Founded in 2016, the Milan-based airline operated flights within Italy but also to France, Spain, Ukraine and Albania. It had a total of 22 destinations. In January 2020, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority suspended the airline’s AOC (Air Operator’s Certificate) for holiday traffic reasons and lack of authenticity of their AOC. The airline has not restarted operations this year and seems to have completely ceased operations, albeit being in legal consultations to do with its future as an airline. At the time of the suspension of its AOC, it operated 3 Airbus A320s and 1 Airbus A319. 2 of the Airbus A320s are now being operated by leasing companies Air Lease Corporation and ICBC Leasing. 28th of November 2020.
