The most produced aircraft ever: the Cessna 172

The most produced aircraft ever is the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, with over 44’000 manufactured. Originally produced from 1956 to 1986 (30 years!) the plane started to be produced again in 1998. Now Cessna doesn’t exist as a plane manufacturing company anymore, as it was merged into Textron Aviation in 2014, but this plane is still being produced. The original version was equipped with a Continental O-300 (Cessna almost always used Continental whereas Piper was and still is a big Lycoming fan), but later on, a Lycoming O-320-E2D was used for the 1968 model, the Cessna 172I. Loads of models have been produced and the Cessna 172 remains a reliable and comfortable plane to be in. 13th of April 2020.
