Petition made to rename Taiwan’s China Airlines

Thousands of people have petitioned to have China Airlines (the flag carrier of Taiwan) renamed. The majority of these people are US-based Taiwanese. The name has caused unnecessary confusion throughout all of Asia. The airline has nothing to do with Air China, the flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China. Several countries have banned this airline, thinking that it was a Chinese airline (many governments from across the world have banned Chinese airlines from flying, as it was the epicenter of the coronavirus [it no longer is]), but it isn’t. Let’s take the example of Italy: Thinking that China Airlines was a Chinese airline, the Italian government banned it from flying to Italy, as they had banned all flights from China. 16’000 signatures have currently been collected and given to the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen. 15th of April 2020.
