South Africa is looking for a new flag carrier. South African Airways (the flag carrier of South Africa) hasn’t yet ceased operations but it is technically insolvent and will soon be liquidated. The plan to create a new flag carrier for South Africa is being backed by South African Airways’s near 5000-strong workforce. Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced from Pretoria (the capital of South Africa): ” the old SAA is dead, there is no doubt about that”. This is very sad, as the airline has been operating since 1934 and is one of Africa’s biggest airlines.
