Taiwan approves law to change China Airlines’ name

Taiwan’s parliament has approved a law asking the Taiwanese Transport Ministry to change the name of the Taiwanese flag carrier, China Airlines, to avoid confusion with the flag carrier of the PRC, Air China. In February, a petition was created by US-based Taiwanese to change the airline’s name, which, as of today, has gained over 50000 signatures. On top of this, independence groups in Taiwan have been calling for changes to the country’s passports, which is a controversial subject, as some politicians and people believe that the fight against the coronavirus should take priority. Politics is not my domain and I do not wish to comment anymore on this subject, especially now. 23rd of July 2020.
